Chicago Slovak Churches

In 1915 the Archdiocese published a list of Catholic Slovak Churches

On Sunday, August 1956, the Chicago Tribune on page 42, announced "Members of eight Catholic Slovak parishes will celebrate Slovak day next Sunday at gardens owned by Catholic charities at 119th St. and Archer avenue...."

The article continued by listing those Catholic Slovak churches - "Slovak parishes in Chicago are Holy Rosary, 19842 Perry av.; St. Simon's, 5157 s. california av.; Assumption, 2434 S. California av.,; St. Joseph's 720 17th pl.; St. John the Baptist, 9129 Burley av.; SS. Cyril and Methodiuc, 4244 Walton st., and St. Michael Archangel, 4821 S. Damen av."

Several of those Slovak churches have been described in past CSAGSI journals of KORENY.  We have found some additional information on them and others.  On several of these churches we have not found much information so far.

One additional Slovak church we have gathered information on is - Trinity Slovak Lutheran Church.

Family Search maintains a web site which provides online access to birth / baptism, marriage and death records for those Catholic parishes.  The information available varies with each church.   Ancestry has some records of Trinity Slovak Lutheran Church.
