Thomas Capek is appropriately described as "America's Czech Historian".  For fifty years Capek wrote in newspapers and books the story of Czechs in America and in the homelands.

 

He was such an ardent "Bohemian" that in 1900 he argued before the New York Supreme Court that he should be allowed to register to vote in New York, with a listing a "nativity" of Bohemia, not Austria.  He lost the appeal, but never stopped promoting all facets of Bohemian life in the United States.
