President's Message

March 2009

Paul Nemecek, President CSAGSI     With the approach of the May CSAGSI meeting in LaGrange my thoughts these preceding months have been on the election of future officers for the society. First, thank you to the nominating committee for searching out an outstanding group of people. I commend these volunteers for stepping forward to the important tasks of leading this society. An announcement from each nominee appears elsewhere in this Newsletter in preparation for elections in May.
Also please consider the many ethnic events that are approaching this summer. Participate in as many as you can. Especially bring your children and grandchildren. They need to be exposed to their heritage as early and as often as possible.
One event shown on the Czechoslovak Community Calendar is the memorial service held in Crest Hill, IL, dedicated to the village of Lidice in the Czech Republic. This Czech village was destroyed and all of its inhabitants killed or sent to concentration camps by Hitler. The service is held Sunday, June 7 in Crest Hill, near Romeoville at 11 am. The Czech American Congress is sponsoring the service. Bus transportation will be available.
The annual Czechoslovak American Congress Family Picnic is scheduled for Sunday, August 23 at Kiwanis Park, Brookfield starting at 11 am. Bring your own picnic basket or purchase some delicious food on sale. CSAGSI will be responsible for the sale of coffee and bakery. We need some volunteers to help staff the table. If you can help please call Sharon Davis at 708-749-2558.
The 70th Annual Moravian Day events sponsored by the United Moravian Societies will be held Saturday & Sunday, September 12, 13 at the Lithuanian World Center, 14911 127th Street Lemont, IL. Check the web site www.unitedmoraviansocieties.com for more information.
I shall look forward to seeing many of you at the afternoon May CSAGSI meeting in LaGrange. The CSAGSI Board, officers and chairpersons will also be meeting that morning at 9:30 a.m. at the church. If you would like to listen in to your officers you are welcome to attend that meeting also. Have a great summer.
